The Art of Alexis C. Trammell: October 2011

About Me

I have had an interest in drawing since I was very young, and was encouraged by my grandmother, an artist, in my childhood. My family moved to Paducah, KY when I was a teen, and I soon got involved with local art shows and eventually the Paducah Area Painters' Alliance. I have been a member there for several years and have had the opportunity to show my work with some of Paducah's best artists at our gallery on Broadway. In 2009 I took my first drawing class at the Paducah School of Art. Through that class and the encouragement I received there, I found a new confidence and passion to pursue my art. Through all of this, I have grown in my fascination with detail and realism, and in experience with different dry media. Having used graphite and colored pencils for years, I also have a new love of charcoal and an interest in pastels. I have won several awards in local art shows, including the Woman’s Club of Paducah Annual Art Show and the Paducah School of Art Student Show, and was accepted into the Colored Pencil Society of America International Exhibit in 2005. My approach is best described in a quote by John Singer Sargent, “I paint what I see, I do not dig beneath the surface for things that do not appear before my eyes.” I used to draw things simply because I saw beauty in the subject, but lately I have been trying to tell a story, or convey a feeling, and have been drawn to more journalistic subject matters and self-portraits. My ultimate end is that my art might bring glory to God my Savior, the original Artist, and Giver of all gifts.
